Academic Workshop
on Tuesday, we started off on some basic CSS and html, such as classes and ID’s which I had already learnt ahead of time recently. I always used to put my CSS code and html code on the same file, but I learnt that its better to link them for more organisation.
we then inserted some more CSS as a group to make the website look better. (I was so glad to learn how to comment in CSS and html, because it helps when you look at the code after a long time)
I managed to align all my text, but I did struggle to animate my image of a cat. Turns out my only error was needing to place a ‘s’ to indicate the seconds of my animation loop. I do need to look at keyframes more though as it’s a very new concept to me and I feel as though it could turn into a very nice feature in the future of my web development.
(looking back at this clip, the pathway movement of my cat isn’t what I intended, however its only a quick coordinate fix away.)
I also managed to make a navigation bar — which I made so when you click the about section you get a nice cat. I can’t insert the image sadly as the cat is file is too big for WordPress. The navigation bar sticks when you scroll, which is a feature I want to use in the future.
CSS workshop
Wednesday
We looked at some more CSS with Hannah as I got used to using a MacBook, I felt as though I got more used to GitHub and vscode. We also looked through some slides that talked about more CSS concepts, I found those slides very helpful to look back on, and as I read through them I realised I have already learnt more than I thought I had.
Afterwards, I had a refresher of Boolean and flowcharts. I already knew what they were as concepts but I learnt some new symbol variants for Boolean that were different to the ones I learnt during my A level computer science class. They may be simple concepts but they’ll be good for planning my future code.
Academic Workshop
On Thursday I learnt a lot of new CSS formatting, I managed to make a gallery website, which while making I learnt a lot of new things, such as using multiple classes in the same div, using display: flex; and display: grid; to help create a gallery

giving divs id’s and using the @ rules was new to me and will definitely be something I will need to teach myself more. I feel like the media @ rule specifically will be great for my future web design.

Later that day, I also attended a vice chancellor talk which was hosted by Chrissy Levett who talked about the ‘power of creative thinking’, i thought her talk was very interesting and very inspirational especially when she said that (verbatim) ‘your experiences can be used to help others’, I hope I’ll be able to use my own experiences to help others in the future just like she and many others have. I hope with my BSc I’ll be able to make a positive different in the future
