This week was my first week looking at machine learning. It’s been a long time since I’ve worked with python, but I’m glad to be back to using it again as I’m already familiar with its syntax.
This week pushed me a lot, I struggle with maths so I took a look at the suggested reading a few days before next week to try get myself up to speed a bit more. The terminology from the pytorch library confused me a lot, and I frequently ended up with way more errors than I had hoped for. I find machine learning interesting, but also very difficult with my current skill set.
I was really inspired by Yogi’s session, I find AI very fascinating as a topic, but I’d love to use it as an assistive tool rather than use it to steal the work of other’s unethically. It made me specifically interested with how radicalization online can be predicted and monitored. As someone who has participated in many online communities, I have often witnesses extremism, and I have also seen how people with influential power can more easily gain a wider audience that are more willing to become followers to exclusionist views. Learning that there are people out there who are working to track these types of people in order to prevent harassment and negativity online.
Later on this week, I worked more on machine learning. With a lot of help I managed to make it work, but in the future I hope I can become more self sufficient with helping myself.
