This week I tried to make some progress. I made a 3d model over the holidays for my AR project. I don’t have much 3D modelling experience, apart from a workshop I attended a few interchanges ago. However, after a lot of trial and error I managed to get a result I was happy with! This character is Hatsune Miku, a character I quite like, I used her as a reference for my model. I feel as though I learnt some good skills when using blender.
I love adding personal touches to things, and it was great to try something new in the process.

However, I did have an issue importing the face texture. It took me a long time but eventually I realised I needed to change some nodes in the rendering section, because without doing this — the face texture couldn’t be read in unity. I didn’t want to redraw my face so I ‘baked’ it into a new texture, thankfully this worked.
I had to resize this as a prefab model in unity, this was easy enough though.
I also added an academic writing workshop for essay writing. I had an idea about wanting to talk about VR usage in therapy, however I did not know what other topics to talk about. When discussing my idea, I got a suggestion of other usages of VR in the healthcare industry. I didn’t realise this sector was as large as it was. Discussing really helped me solidify my idea, and now I have gained a rough idea of my essay topic. I have also jotted down some sources that I may or may not use in the future as references.
I also attended a visiting lecture this week. I had already seen Collusion as a lecture last year, however it was nice to see about their more recent projects.
At the end of this week I also had a group tutorial. None of the other people on my course could make it in person though so I had some great one on one time. I’ve tried to implement an action where when I click on my model prefab that appears when I scan my marker image, it makes a sound. sadly this touch interaction isn’t being detected. I did manage to solve another issue in this session though, where I implemented an introducing overlay that you can cancel out of. I feel as though its useful for people who don’t know what to do. (It explains that by scanning the marker image, the ‘experience’ will begin.)
Hopefully by next week I’ll implement a way to interact with my prefab! Originally I also wanted to change the face texture when I touch the prefab, however I have changed my mind as I find it might be easier to implement a base colour change. If this project was longer i’d research how to do this, but given my given timescale I think it is better to implement another change instead.
