Week 28

This was my submission week! I finished up my reflective learning summary, as well as double checking all of my other work. I’m glad I did this as it made me realise I accidentally made a pdf version of a non-final version. I fixed this quickly.

Collaborative task

Me and my group worked on the final parts of our collaborative task project documentation, where we created a slide for user feedback and our final thoughts. This went relatively well.

We also made a “final” github repository to store both the code and images for documentation. Originally, Oli did this but he used my past repository, this was my fault as I didn’t send him my more recent repository so he only had my old one, but this was remedied. Ava then made another repository with the newest moth repository. I also screenshotted some images from our miro board, which I linked in my collaborative statement. I’m glad that I did, otherwise I would’ve had even more pages than I already have.

We also got feedback from a few students and also from a few lecturers. I thought up some simple questions, such as: “Did you know that there were endangered moth species in Norfolk?”. After one of my lecturer’s overhead my questions, they suggested that I added a “What is one thing you would change about this project?”, this gave me and my group some useful insights. A lot of these answers where features we would implement with more time, for instance, one tester suggested that we use one landmark on the hand to display and interact with the displayed information- rather than all of the possible hand landmarks created in mediapipe by default.

We also got given suggestions that we did not consider, this made me realise that user feedback can be incredibly insightful, but that its also good to ask open ended questions otherwise you won’t be able to implement the feedback that well.

Our setup didn’t go “perfectly”, there was issues with the cam and follower moth, however me and my group managed to improve it slightly. (It kept falling off, so we applied weights to it). However, I’m still proud of our result as a team and I felt as though trying to fix the moth at the end was a nice bonding experience.

As a whole, I’ve found this project interesting. I feel like I pushed myself in terms of making classes as well as interacting with people. I feel like I’ve improved my soft skills, such as teamwork and communication, which will all be beneficial to me no matter what work I do in the future.

Alongside this I feel like I’ve improved my essay writing skills, most likely due to more practice. I’m really valuing “starting the essay earlier”, since it gave me more time for revisions and was less stressful, I will continue implementing this.

Extras

I also got the chance to have hot chocolate and tea with some my lecturers and a few people from the creative technology course, where we discussed another place we could potentially go on a course trip. It was something small, but I really enjoyed talking together.

I worked on getting all my work done finalised and managed to hand in on time. I had no worries of handing in late, which I’m glad about.

I’m also really excited to become a student ambassador! The induction is scheduled to happen during our holiday so I will mention it here instead. I’ve loved this course and I didn’t even realise it was a discipline that could be studied in university at first. I’ve been sad to see the low numbers on the non-diploma version of this course and I want to try and boost the cohort. I feel like so many people would love this course, however they might not know it exists. I am thrilled at the opportunity to share my joy for this course with other people.
