Before I start with this year, I’ve decided to make a “week 0” log due to the amount of things I got up to during the holiday break.
For starters, I have become a student academic mentor. I saw the role advertised and was happy I got in. I may not have any creative computing students to mentor however, I’m glad that this will give me a chance to interact with different groups of people, as well as letting me build my confidence and get more work experience which I feel will be beneficial for me.
I’ve also done work as a student ambassador over the holiday break, I’ve published some articles on unibuddy and gave advice to students, as well as attending an open day and helping new students get their student ID’s. I got to meet people from different courses, which I really liked. Someone from an open day even remembered me when she came to collect her ID, that really motivated me as it let me know I made a positive difference.
I feel like I’ve really integrated myself into the university ecosystem
For a 3rd time, I’ve also become a student representative. I’ve really enjoyed the role, as it allows me to connect more with my course mates and lecturers, as well as letting me hear about how the diploma students and the year below are doing.
On top of this, I have applied for a christmas elf job over the holidays, I haven’t gotten a response after my interview yet, though I feel as though having this role will further enhance my creative spirit and confidence.
