This week was the bank plane project.
This week was interesting. I really liked the idea of the plotter that we all got a chance to use and I loved how you could use any image for it as long as it was in SVG format. Me and a friend worked together to create an svg file for the plotter. We were inspired by a previous project where we worked together on our second year make it manifesto where we used mad mapper with images from the same video, bad apple.

I loved seeing the plotter and how it worked, the visuals and the sound it made while moving the pen were very satisfying.
I didn’t know what I wanted to do for my project at first, so I researched some libraries and came across one with a gradient that I felt would be interesting to implement. -project here-.
alterebro/p5.fillGradient: Fill shapes in p5.js with Linear, Radial and Conic Gradients.
I played around with some transparency, speed and background colour settings and it gave me some cool effects. However I wanted to add something else.
I tried to implement a moving fractal spiral, however no matter where I placed it, it wouldn’t work even when simplified, I assumed this could be because of an issue with the library, or maybe it was too much for my timeframe as I had to make sure both my original work and my spiral works worked together.
Eventually, I found something that worked! It wasn’t my original vision but it had an interesting result and I’m glad I got the chance to make my project more interesting. It is the long curved line in the image below. This line can have its x position changed via one of my midi sliders.

It was great to see my work presented along side everyone else’s. My project was skipped more than many of the other projects, however whenever anyone would stay to try and test it, it made me happy. I also managed to record all of my slider effects and I got to show some people I know who couldn’t make it so that was good.
I also did more essay work this week. Thankfully because this project was relaxed I had some time to work on it afterwards. I still need to research more on my 3rd topic however I’ve gotten a solid idea on my first two topics, VR in mental health and VR for reminiscene therapy in alzeihmers and dementia care. The more I research these topics the more I’ve fallen in love with them. I’ve always loved the idea of helping people with technology, so its great to see companies who are supporting how I feel.

It was great to see everyone’s project! I especially loved one of the diploma student’s work. I recognized them from an interchange event they hosts where they considered the creative computing diploma, it was nice to see that they decided to do it. They made an interesting word based one where when you interacted with the sliders it told a story, I felt like it was very creative and I enjoyed it very much.
In general, it was nice to get to see more of the diploma students and see what they were getting up to. I had a chance to talk to some of them and it was nice to be able to talk about our projects together.
